Faro – Lighthouse en Rincon

Staycations rock on a tropical island! Especially when there’s new stuff to explore.

Enter the Rincon lighthouse. Easy to get to. Free. Only slightly creepy bathrooms.

Overlooks a nice beach that surfers love. But it’s RIGHT next to a failed nuclear power plant. Wha? I don’t think I could relax on a beach with that thing lingering behind me.

see those little people down there?

We then drove down the road to get ice cream. Fun day!

Outside a surf shop after ice cream

P is sad the lookout tower was closed

OK, i wanted to show my hair. haha

The lighthouse there has wonderful views and lovely grounds. I wonder what made the power plant fail? I had just thought it was abandoned and shut down. You should check out Steps Beach for snorkeling when the water is calm. Lovely photos and your hair is cute!

Where is that entrance road? I have never seen that. Oh and Domes was the first beach I went to when we moved there. Brian surfs there. Pretty sure it’s safe.

We just put Rincon lighthouse in Google maps and it led us there. Sorry I don’t have better advice!

If you are talking about those crazy signs you drive under leading into Rincón, they just finished the one on the Aguada side (115) not long ago and I think they are still working on the one from the Mayaguez side. A little gawdy in my opinion. Sort of looks like an entrance sign to Disneyland or some other sort of theme park.

Isn’t that a beautiful faro and park? I like to go to a yoga class there sometimes before (or after if I were a morning person) the farmer’s market on Sundays. As for Domes (BONUS), it only ran for a few years in the 60s and then was decommissioned mainly due to funding issues. There is nowadays nothing radioactive about it. But it sure looks like a crazy setting for a sci-fi movie. Oh and there is a really cool spot past Domes following Spanish Wall that leads you to this: http://www.lifetransplanet.com/2014/12/31/getting-enjoying-winter/
It’s cool living in a beach town that people come to visit on vacations (or in your case staycations!). It’s definitely a new experience for me!

Another great thing about Rincón you might want to check out is the marine reserve at Steps Beach called Tres Palmas. It has one of the best elkhorn coral formations around if you like snorkeling. And watch a sunset while drinking a Pirata at Villa Cofresí. It’s a must!

    ¡Bienvenidos a Rincón!

Oh and I agree, nice hairdo!

Spanish Wall was fun for us, too! We hiked there on a very muddy road at the time but it was worth it.
